AVISTA Group was honored to be invited by Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (“Cyberport”) for 4 consecutive years to participate in the Cyberport Venture Capital Forum 2024, themed “Innovation Challenger: Building New Venture Visions”. Our Managing Partner, Mr. Vincent Pang, and our Principal of Risk Management Advisory, Ms. Sabrina Lam, had the privilege of conducting one-on-one ESG consultations with start-up companies who are members of the Cyberport Professional Service Network (CPN) in the Start-up Clinic session. The forum took place successfully on October 24-25 at Cyberport.
 
During these consultation sessions, Mr. Pang and Ms. Lam engaged in in-depth discussions with start-ups in the greentech, e-commerce and online education industries on the essential elements of effective governance and sustainability. The discussions centred around the implementation of ESG practices and the unlocking of investment value through sound governance and sustainability strategies. Our Managing Partner, Mr. Vincent Pang, was privileged to be invited as the Chairman of Jury Panel for the fourth consecutive year for the Institute of ESG &amp; Benchmark (IESGB)’s ESG Achievement Awards this year. He also had the honor of serving as a speaker and awards presenter at the Awards Presentation Ceremony held at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong on 25 September 2024.
 
Under the theme "Driving Positive Change: Innovation in Sustainable Practices and Responsible Risk Management," the Awards aimed to recognize and celebrate organizations that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to sustainability, ethical business practices, and effective risk management strategies.
 
Co-organized by The Institute of Financial Technologists of Asia (IFTA) and supported by the ESG Data Partner, Hang Seng Indexes Company Limited (HSIL), the Awards ceremony commenced with a welcome speech by Mr. Paul Pong, Co-Founder of IESGB, and Ms. Anita Mo, Chief Executive Officer of HSIL. Mr. Pang also had the privilege of delivering a keynote address, expressing his delight at the submissions showcasing real-world impact and leadership in sustainability. He expressed gratitude for the role of the ESG Achievement Awards in advancing sustainability and innovation in Hong Kong and beyond.
 
The Awards celebrated the exceptional contributions of 41 winning organizations across 9 award categories, encapsulating the ethos of organizations and professionals who act as catalysts for positive transformation through their sustainable practices. As a Guest Speaker and Sponsor at the 2024 China ESG Summit - Consumer Goods Industry in Shanghai

Our Principal of Risk Management Advisory, Ms. Sabrina Lam, was honored to be invited as a guest speaker by the Society of Chinese Accountants and Auditors (SCAA) for its seminar titled “Implications of HKEX New Climate Disclosure Requirements on SMPs and SMEs”.
 
During the seminar, Sabrina emphasized the importance of addressing Scope 3 GHG emissions, setting GHG reduction targets and promoting responsible supply chain management for SMPs and SMEs, as they are part of the value chain of listed companies obliged to comply with HKEX’s new climate disclosure requirements. To assist SMPs and SMEs in enhancing their overall sustainability performance and gaining a competitive advantage through ESG, the session also highlighted the value of ESG integration into their business models with case studies and showcased the global key ESG trends.

As Guest Speaker at the Society of Chinese Accountants and Auditors (SCAA) Seminar – “Implications of HKEX New Climate Disclosure Requirements on SMPs and SMEs” 

On April 19, 2024, The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (the Exchange) released its Consultation Conclusions on the enhancement of climate-related disclosures under its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework.
Taking into account market feedback and aligning with the Hong Kong Government's sustainability disclosure vision and the International Sustainability Standards Board’s (ISSB) jurisdictional guide preview, the proposals were adjusted to closely reflect IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures (IFRS S2) as outlined in the Consultation Conclusions (New Climate Requirements).

The New Climate Requirements, based on IFRS S2, introduce implementation reliefs including proportionality and scaling-in measures to address reporting challenges that may be faced by issuers.

Along with that, the amended Listing Rules will be effective from January 1, 2025.

Consultation Conclusions on Enhancement of Climate-related Disclosures under the ESG Framework

AVISTA Group was delighted to be invited by Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI) to serve as the project sponsor of Institute Case Competition 2024. Our Managing Partner, Mr. Vincent Pang, and Principal of Risk Management Advisory Services, Ms. Sabrina Lam, were honored to coach the participants of the case competition.
 
This year, the theme of the case competition is a sustainability research project. The topic of the initial round of the competition, "Advancing the net-zero journey: Carbon asset and carbon trading opportunities," was set by AVISTA Group. Mr. Pang and Ms. Lam have chosen one group of the best performers among five to advance to the semi-final round. All groups demonstrated strong analytical skills and delivered outstanding performances in the initial round. During the award presentation ceremony yesterday, Mr. Pang presented the award to Group Future Picasso, the semi-finalist selected by AVISTA Group. We extend our thanks to all the groups for their efforts and offer congratulations to all the semi-finalists and finalists.
