Innovation-driven startups and fledgling companies striving for rapid expansion and public listing have sprouted up in Hong Kong in recent years. Focusing on catalyzing growth, an establishment of governance frameworks is unlikely to be a priority for these startup founders during the initial stages. Nonetheless, good governance is undoubtedly pivotal to sustainability and attracting public investment for their long-term success.

Our Managing Partner, Mr. Vincent Pang was pleased to be invited by The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute (HKCGI) to partnered with others industry experts to deliver a seminar on “Startups in Hong Kong &amp; Challenges of Governance Enhancement” last Friday. The event was a huge success, attracting over 360 decision-makers and future business leaders.

Seasoned speakers provided an overview of building startups in Hong Kong and analyzed trends in corporate innovation. Vincent also highlighted the importance of valuation for startups in managing the value of companies and negotiating deals. A panel discussion was designed to explore the significance and difficulties of enhancing corporate governance to startups afterwards, offering critical perspectives on enhancing the city's startup landscape through sound governance.

The HKICPA's Best CG and ESG Awards have played a significant role in establishing benchmark and encouraging improvement in CG and ESG practices and reporting for over two decades. In an endeavor to promote long-term sustainability, the awards continue to acknowledge listed companies and organizations achieving a high standard in CG and ESG.
 
This year, 27 awardees have been selected, including the most prominent companies in Hong Kong such as CLP Holdings Limited, Link Real Estate Investment Trust, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, MTR Corporation Limited, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited and more.

As the Reviewers of the HKICPA Best Corporate Governance and ESG Awards 2022

AVISTA is pleased to be invited by The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute (HKCGI) to be the Silver Sponsor of their annual signature event – Annual Corporate Regulatory Update (ACRU) 2022. ACRU is a city-wide governance forum that gathers governance professionals, directors and senior management in the city to learn about the latest key corporate and regulatory developments, insights and enforcement trends directly from regulators each year. In its 21st year, the HKICPA's Best CG and ESG Awards continue to recognize companies and organizations on setting the benchmarks of quality in terms of CG and ESG disclosures and practices, in an effort to promote and realize long-term sustainability. This year, more than 540 annual reports and over 540 ESG reports were covered in the initial screening. Among them, 29 awardees have been selected this year. As the Reviewers of the HKICPA Best Corporate Governance and ESG Awards 2021

Our Managing Director, Mr. Vincent Pang was pleased to be the Head Juror of the Institute of ESG &amp; Benchmark (IESGB)’s ESG Achievement Awards 2020.
 
The Awards aims to serve as a significant benchmark of the current sustainable development standards and best practices in Hong Kong by emphasizing the value of outstanding sustainability performance of companies, as well as NGOs. With Hang Seng Indexes Company Limited (HISL) being the Honorary Supporting Organization and Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA) as the ESG Data Provider cum Supporting Organization, the jury panel was able to evaluate all applications comprehensively and fairly.
 
This year’s Awards was open for both listed and privately-owned companies under 4 categories, namely ESG Benchmark Awards, Special ESG Awards, Special Award and Honorary Awards.
 
Vincent and Ms. Sabrina Lam, Principal of Risk Management Advisory Services, were also invited to be the guests of the Awards Presentation Ceremony on 29 Jun 2021. Vincent gave a speech to conclude his duties and express his appreciation towards the board and the fellow jury panel; and presented the Gold and Platinum Winner of “The ESG Leader” Award.
 
The Awards recognizes ESG achievements in all industry sectors through 36 companies and 2 individuals. Among which, the developer and construction industry were found to be the most advanced in their sustainable development. Few Hong Kong’s most prominent developers received the Awards trophies, including Henderson Land Development Co., Limited, New World Development Ltd., Sino Group and Chinachem Group.
 
AVISTA was honored to help recognize local companies for their progress in ESG and share our best practices in ESG achievements with others and to the public at large.

Our Director and Principal of Risk Management Advisory services, Mr. Ricky Ho and Ms. Sabrina Lam were pleased to be invited by the HKICS to speak on the webinar: “An Investor’s Lens: Sustainable Investing as the New Norm - Implications on ESG Reporting”.
 
The webinar discussed how the ESG integration can create value in the interest of investor and the effectiveness of ESG reporting. Ricky covered the market overview and business sustainability story in ESG reporting, while Sabrina shared investors’ confidence from ESG reporting and the coming trend in ESG investing.
 
The webinar also featured a panel discussion with the topic “How to Set Target for Carbon Reduction”. The speakers had an inspiring discussion with Mr. Jonathan Yau, Associate Director of Cundall Hong Kong Limited. The development of carbon emission reduction initiative worldwide, the benefits of setting carbon emissions targets for corporates and tips on how to set target for carbon reduction were covered.
