<h1 style="text-align: center;">A Day with Food Angel!</h1>
 
Our team has spent an amazing day at Food Angel last Friday preparing and sorting veggies that will be cooked as nutritious meals and distributed to the needy. The activity was a unique experience to gain a better understanding of food waste and poverty issues in Hong Kong through the process of rescuing edible surplus food. Thank you to Food Angel for giving us this opportunity to contribute to the community and foster our team spirit through volunteerism!

AVISTA’s Volunteer Activity – A Day with Food Angel

World Ocean Day is an annual event with the purpose of raising awareness about the importance of the ocean and the urgent need to protect it. In 2023, the focus is on the global commitment known as the 30x30 Actions, which aims to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030. The ocean covers over 70% of the Earth's surface and plays a critical role in regulating the climate and supporting marine life.
 
The 30x30 Actions have been endorsed by world leaders and involve the establishment of marine protected areas and the promotion of sustainable ocean management practices worldwide. However, protecting the ocean is not solely the responsibility of governments. Each individual can contribute to this global movement by taking simple actions in their daily lives. These actions include reducing the use of single-use plastics, choosing sustainable seafood options, avoiding shark fins, conserving water, and reducing our carbon footprint.
 
The ocean is an essential component of our planet's ecosystem, and its health and sustainability are intrinsically linked to our well-being. By safeguarding marine ecosystems and preserving biodiversity, we can ensure the long-term viability of our planet.

Dedicated to fostering a healthy workplace, we recently organized a workplace wellness workshop and a complimentary on-site health checkup at our Hong Kong and Shanghai offices respectively.

The wellness workshop focused on gentle body stretch, mindfulness practices, simple yoga and breathwork. These relaxing exercises helped our employees release tension and alleviate the effects of prolonged sitting. We are glad that they felt their stress and anxiety melt away after these simple yet rejuvenating mind-body practices!

Meanwhile, in collaboration with a professional health center, the three-day comprehensive health consultations also enabled our Shanghai staff to identify any health issues and address any health concerns they may have.

This year, we are excited to be a part of this world’s largest environmental movement and gifted each of our employees a tree by donating to One Tree Planted to show our modest support for this reforestation initiative as our commitment to sustainability.

AVISTA Hong Kong Office has taken another step towards sustainability by gifting our employees a "Green Egg Capsule", which contains all the essentials needed to grow a bonsai tree indoors. The miniature pot, seeds, and soil are our way of supporting a greener Easter.

Festive celebrations often come with negative impacts on the environment, causing an increase in waste, pollution, and carbon emissions. Yet, we believe that every individual can make a difference and contribute to sustainability during Easter by taking simple steps:

<li style="font-weight: 400;">Look for eggs from pasture-raised chickens at your local farmer’s market</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;">Consider using biodegradable natural dyes made from fruits or vegetables instead of artificial dyes for Easter egg decoration</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;">Choose eco-friendly Easter decorations such as natural materials including flowers, leaves and twigs or purchase reusable decorations</li>
</ul>
 
Every small action counts when it comes to sustainability. Let’s make this holiday more joyous and greener!
